BGKT Buddhist Group of Kendal (Theravada) was founded in 1991. 30th anniversary 2021.

BGKT participate from home or in person in Kendal.  All welcome.  Free.

BGKT Open Meeting

BGKT holds an open meeting on the 3rd Sunday of the month (except December), from 2.00 – 4.30pm. All welcome. Free. Castle Street Community Centre, Castle Street, Kendal, LA9 7AD. Detached Room – entrance on the side of the building behind bicycle rack near wall.

2024 Meeting Dates: 21 January, 18 February, 17 March, 21 April, 19 May, 16 June, 21 July, 18 August, 15 September, 20 October, 17 November, December no meeting.

Open meetings are led by lay teachers authorized to teach by the Theravada Buddhist Sangha [Community of Theravada Buddhist Monks].  Open meetings include The Four Foundations of Mindfulness taught by The Buddha; Tranquillity and Insight Meditation; Walking Meditation. Talks on Buddhism.

Teachings in Buddhist Group of Kendal (Theravada) BGKT’s Open Meetings are based on Mindfulness in Plain English, Loving-Kindness in Plain English, Start Here, Start Now: A Short Guide to Mindfulness Meditation and The In Plain English series by Buddhist Monk Venerable Bhante Henepola Gunaratana (one of the Founder Spiritual Advisors to BGKT) published by Wisdom Books.
