BGKT assisted with the multifaith Quiet Room for meditation/prayer/reflection from 10am – 4pm at Kendal Town Hall.

Civic Celebration for Mayor’s Sunday Kendal 2 July 2023
Kendal Civic Celebration for Mayor’s Sunday led by The Worshipful the Town Mayor Councillor Jonathan Cornthwaite on Sunday 14 July 2024, included an invitation from The Mayor to faith groups in Kendal.
BGKT Secretary Jacquetta Gomes (also WFDEIP Lead on Interfaith and Multifaith) represented BGKT Buddhist Group of Kendal (Theravada), SLIF South Lakeland Interfaith Forum and WFDEIP Westmorland and Furness Diversity Equity and Inclusion Partnership. She walked in the Procession and attended The Mayor’s Sunday Service in Kendal Parish Church and the lunch.

Buddhist Monk Venerable Mahalova Ariyadhamma (who lives in a forest in Sri Lanka) led a meditation and Buddhist Teaching meeting for Buddhist Group of Kendal (Theravada) and Keswick Buddhist Group on 25 June 2024.

The Mayor of Kendal Councillor Jonathan Cornthwaite and Deputy Mayor Councillor Richard Sutton attended the Buddhist Group of Kendal (Theravada) BGKT Vesak celebrations, at Kendal Unitarian Chapel on Thursday 23 May 2024. BGKT was delighted that both The Mayor and Deputy Mayor attended. Kendal’s Mayors and Deputy Mayors have attended our Vesak Celebrations for many years.
The festival of Vesak commemorates the Birth, Enlightenment and Passing Away of the Buddha. The celebration included a Puja [religious ceremony]. People also participated at home.
