BGKT Open Meeting

COVID-19 BGKT Open Meeting participate from home.  All welcome. Free.

Buddhist Group of Kendal (Theravada) (BGKT) was established in 1991.

BGKT holds an open meeting on the 3rd Sunday of the month (except December) from 2.00-4.30.

2020 Dates: Jan. 19, Feb. 16, March 15, April 19, May 17, June 21, July 19, Aug. 16, Sep. 20, Oct. 18, Nov. 15, December no meeting.

Open meetings are led by lay teachers authorized to teach by the Theravada Buddhist Sangha [Community of Theravada Buddhist Monks].  Open meetings include The Four Foundations of Mindfulness taught by The Buddha; Tranquillity and Insight Meditation; Walking Meditation. Talks on Buddhism. Tea and biscuits.

The Buddhist Group of Kendal (Theravada) (BGKT) is fortunate to have as its founder Spiritual Advisors Venerable Dr Balangoda Ananda Maitreya Mahanayaka Thera Abhidhaja Maharatthaguru Aggamaha Pandita DLitt DLitt (1896-1998) and Venerable Henepola Gunaratana Maha Thera (1927-).

Introducing Buddhism by Venerable Dr Balangoda Ananda Maitreya Mahanayaka Thera and Jacquetta Gomes Bodhicarini Upasika Jayasili. Introducing Buddhism was originally published by The Buddhist Society London in 1988, to accompany the Buddhist Society’s Introducing Buddhism Course, on which Jacquetta Gomes (BGKT Secretary) was one of the teachers. Introducing Buddhism has subsequently been published by various organisations in several countries.

Introducing Buddhism was reprinted by Taipei, Taiwan: The Corporate Body of the Buddha Educational Foundation, Taipei, Taiwan in 2007. (Book code EN074-8401) (This edition includes as an appendix the booklet: Requirements and Ceremonies for The Five Precepts (Panca Sila), The Eight Precepts with Right Livelihood as the Eighth (Ajivatthamaka Sila), Dhamma Teachers Certificate, issued by the Buddhist Group of Kendal (Theravada) and Ketumati Buddhist Vihara at Wesak 2006)
